Video: Converting Crabgrass to Lawn Organically

Eli from North Carolina asks if there's any way to convert crabgrass to a nice lawn organically, and preferably quickly! Well, there's no quick fix but there IS a way to do it organically and EFFECTIVELY. Watch my video response below!

Aerating is a fantastic thing that you can do for any yard. However, you imply in your video that you can seed and the seed will fall in the holes left by aerating and will grow. Usually, the holes left by aerating are way too deep for seed to germinate...

Verticutting is a much more effective method to allow the seed to contact the soil and germinate.

Hey Anonymous! Don't be afraid to leave your name my friend. I don't bite (under normal circumstances). I'm psyched that you watched and took the time to comment.

I'm going to have to agree and disagree with you here. The verticutting WOULD work, so high five on that one.

The aerating would work too though. I've done it about 3000 times in the past ten years. Even though the scientific community may not agree with it for technical reasons, the seed makes it to the top just fine. I prefer the aerating for 2 reasons. A) It's much quicker, and B) you get the additional benefits that aeration brings.

Thanks for writing in though my friend. Keep me on my toes!

Nice blog. I found it through Facebook. I'm in Connecticut too up in Litchfield County.

I was hoping I'd find some answer for how to get rid of crabgrass more quickly. I used a crabgrass preventer (probably Scotts or Vigoro) back in the spring and had a pretty good looking lawn through early July. In the past month though, crabgrass has started to take over. Any guess as to what I might have done wrong? Anything I can do other than reseed in the fall to try to turn things right?
